CORDARO SHAW ‘19

Cordaro Shaw '19

Mr. Shaw studies English and Religious Studies and hails from Detroit, MI, where he attended Frederick Douglass Academy for Young Men.

Why did you initially choose to attend Morehouse?

In high school, I encountered a person who influenced my life greatly. He attended Harvard College for undergraduate; however, he told me (in confidence) that if he could reverse time he would’ve attended Morehouse College for undergrad and Harvard University for graduate school. As a seventeen-year-old young man, his statement provided much insight into the value of a Morehouse education, so I ultimately chose to attend Morehouse College due to his influence. Nevertheless, attending Morehouse has been one of my most rewarding decisions.

What has kept you at Morehouse?

I sincerely believe that Morehouse College was the best place for me to pursue my undergraduate education. Morehouse’s small family-like community kept me here.

Why did you choose to study Major?

I chose to major in English because of its universal applicability. In addition, I am interested in becoming a college professor, and I knew the skills acquired as an English major would undoubtedly assist with my post-Morehouse educational endeavors.

Outside of your English and Religious Studies, what have you spent time learning about?

Subjects I enjoy learning about outside of my major are developmental psychology and philosophy.

More about Morehouse TEDx:

I worked in conjunction with five on-campus leaders to implement Morehouse’s first-ever TEDx event.
