Mr. Holston-Sims studies Sociology and hails from Columbus, OH, where he attended Eastmoor Academy High School.

Why did you initially choose to attend Morehouse?

Initially, I came to Morehouse as a student-athlete on the Men’s Basketball teams. I was attracted to the history of Morehouse, but also the location and network that Morehouse exposed me too.

What has kept you at Morehouse?

Since I’ve been at Morehouse, I have had the opportunity to grow unlike any other place. Each day I am constantly inspired by peers. Also, I have enjoyed the opportunities this institution has afforded me.

Why did you choose to study Sociology?

After taking intro to sociology, I saw how transferable it was to all fields. I was searching for a major that would allow me to do research on what I was interested in. Within sociology, I focus on the sociology of sports; This includes analyzing social problems inside of sports. My focus so far has been on the graduation rates of NCAA athletes.

Outside of Sociology, what have you spent time learning about?

The sports Industry has been something I’ve directed a lot of my time too. As an Atlanta Hawks College Ambassador, I am responsible for bridging the gap between the Hawks and the AUC. This experience allows me to work with the Hawks front office and find ways to make their brand visible on campus.

More about Pass-First:

I am most proud of starting my non-profit scholarship fund, Pass-First. The purpose of this scholarship is to financially support two students from Eastmoor Academy High School with academic related expenses during their first year of college. 2019 being its inaugural year, the first two students will be selected within the next month. Creating this scholarship allows me to have an impact at my alma mater, but also helps create a mentorship pipeline for the students as they move forward with college. In the next few years, I hope to expand the scholarship and help more than just two students.
